Police Investigate After Car Strikes Two in Notzingen

15-05-2025

In a recent incident in Notzingen, near Stuttgart, two pedestrians were seriously injured after being struck by a car. The driver, a 60-year-old man, was quickly brought under control by emergency services. According to a police spokesperson, the driver exhibited signs of psychological distress at the scene, though the specifics of his behavior were not detailed. The spokesperson emphasized that there were no indications of an intentional attack or similar motive, categorizing the event as a traffic accident.

The two injured men, aged 43 and 44, were transported to a hospital, with one reported to be in life-threatening condition late in the evening. The incident occurred around 6:00 PM when the driver, after reversing out of a driveway, moved forward and hit the pedestrians from behind on a footpath, also damaging several parked vehicles. Witnesses detained the driver until police arrived, and he was later taken to a specialized clinic following medical treatment for his injuries.

Authorities have reassured the public that there is no ongoing danger, stating, 'All affected parties are on site. The police have everything under control.' However, criminal police are investigating hints that the driver, described as visibly confused, might have caused the accident intentionally. The investigation into the exact circumstances of the incident is ongoing, with further details expected to be released.

Notzingen, a small community in the Esslingen district with a population of about 3,630 as of March 2023, has seen heightened attention to traffic safety following this incident and another similar event in Stuttgart earlier in May. That incident, which occurred at a tram stop in the city center, resulted in one woman's death and injuries to seven others, including children. The current case continues to be probed by police and prosecutors, with the community awaiting answers.
