Spring Weather Takes a Pause: Storms and Thunderstorms Across Germany

22-05-2025

Germany is experiencing a tumultuous week of weather, with storms, thunderstorms, and even frost making appearances across various regions. In Sachsen-Anhalt, a gray day with rain, wind, and occasional thunderstorms was forecasted, with the German Weather Service warning of stormy gusts in the northern parts of the state and on the Brocken. Wind speeds could reach up to 70 kilometers per hour, with temperatures ranging from 9 to 15 degrees Celsius during the day, dropping to 1 to 5 degrees at night, and even dipping to -1 degrees in some areas due to frost.

Similarly, the Sauerland region is bracing for a mix of rain showers and a significant drop in temperatures, with frost expected at night, particularly in the Hochsauerlandkreis. The weekend is predicted to start very fresh, with the possibility of frost, before transitioning into a wetter phase by Sunday. However, the beginning of the new week might bring a slight increase in temperatures, with highs between 14 to 20 degrees, and a potential shift towards more summer-like conditions by the end of the month.

Berlin and Brandenburg are not spared from the erratic weather, with a gray day expected on Thursday, featuring rain, wind, and thunderstorms. The German Weather Service has issued warnings for stormy gusts north of the capital, with wind speeds potentially reaching up to 70 kilometers per hour near showers. Temperatures will peak at 14 to 17 degrees during the day, cooling down to 2 to 5 degrees at night, with light frost expected in the Lausitz region.

By Friday, the weather is expected to become more pleasant across the affected regions, with fewer showers and occasional sunshine. Temperatures will rise slightly, offering a brief respite before the weekend brings a mix of isolated showers and sunny intervals. By Sunday, temperatures could climb above the 20-degree mark, providing a glimpse of warmer days ahead amidst the current unpredictable weather patterns.
