Travestie Star Ernie Reinhardt Turns 70, Reflects on Career and New Beginnings

22-09-2025

German entertainer Ernie Reinhardt, best known for his glamorous alter ego Lilo Wanders, celebrates his 70th birthday amid a period of transition and renewed activity. The Travestie star, who gained fame through his television work and Hamburg stage performances, recently sold his farm in Alten Land, Lower Saxony, and is preparing for multiple reading tours across northern Germany. Reinhardt described this phase as "another new beginning," appearing relaxed as he packs moving boxes rather than settling into retirement.

Reinhardt's career highlights include co-founding Hamburg's Schmidt Theater, where he performed sold-out shows for years as the platinum-blonde Lilo Wanders. Television audiences came to know him through the Vox program "Wa(h)re Liebe," where from 1994 to 2004 he discussed topics ranging from pornographic films to swinger clubs with his characteristic charm and wit. The entertainer remains recognizable on Hamburg's Reeperbahn when in character, though he notes that in everyday clothes he often goes unnoticed.

In recent interviews, Reinhardt has expressed concern about young people's exposure to pornography online, noting that children can access explicit content with just a few clicks. "Pubertät und das frühe Erwachsensein sind tatsächlich verwirrte Jahre," he observed, adding that it's "erschreckend und furchtbar" when youth mistake pornography for reality. His advice to young people emphasizes discussing feelings rather than sexual techniques, suggesting they talk with peers or trusted adults rather than necessarily their parents.

The milestone birthday comes as Reinhardt promotes his autobiography "Waren Sie nicht mal Lilo Wanders?" released by Goldmann Verlag. He presented the book in Hamburg on September 17 and will celebrate with a gala in Frankfurt (Oder). Married since 1985 in an open relationship with his wife Brigitte and father to three adult children, Reinhardt reflects that he "never thought life would gain such momentum again" at this stage. With numerous media appearances scheduled, the entertainer continues to advocate for sexual tolerance while navigating his latest career chapter.
